ALSA Buses - +34 968 511849 - There is a regular service (however I have had to call for information as the route information doesn't seem to work) from Portman to Cartagena (Route 11) and La Union to Cartagena (Route 10). Service between Portman and occurs on the following days and times (information valid as of 20 Mar. 2007):
Portman -Cartagena
Monday-Friday: Cost €1.30 each way
Portman to Cartagena: 0745 & 1530. The bus travels from Portman to La Union, Calle Mayor, the stop is on the same side of the street and towards Esperanza from the Taxi rank (see T on the La Union Map). Then turns left on Jacinto Conesa and eventually passes Mercadona Market on the Real Espartero and heads back out of town on the bypass to Cartagena. The bus makes a detour through Alumbres and then travels to Cartagena, turning right at Plaza Bastarreche (Main Cartagena city bus stop) towards Paseo de Alfonso VIII. At the corner to the right and down the block is Carre Four. To the left and at the end of Paseo de Alfonso VIII is the end of the line at Plaza Espana. You can start your return trip from here or at any of the bus stops along the route.
La Union to Portman - Route 11, €0.95: 1405 (sometimes it's 20 minutes late) at the bus stop on Calle Mayor across from the Market Plaza in La Union. Once this bus arrives in Portman it becomes the 1530
Cartagena to Portman: 2020. The route follows the above except the bus stops at Roche rather than Alumbres.

Portman to Cartagena: 0900 & 1530. Route as above
Cartagena to Portman: no direct service. Get the bus from Cartagena to La Union and there is a bus from La Union to Portman at 1405.
La Union-Cartagena - all months except August which has a different schedule. Cost €1 each way
Monday-Friday:
La Union to Cartagena (ends on Plaza Espana as above): 0700 & 2300 every 30 minutes.
Saturday, Sunday & Festival:
La Union to Cartagena: 0800 & 2300 every hour.

FEVE ( Ferrocarriles De Via Estrecha) No. 428 - Cartagena to Los Nietos, stopping at La Union as well as several stations along the way. The January 2007 published schedule can be seen on this link. La Esperanza station is the closest to Portman, reached by turning right on the La Union road (N332) at the end of the Portman road (N345). The Cartagena end of the line is within walking distance to the Cartagena rail station and the main lines. Turn right as you leave the Cartagena FEVE station and cross two roads to a park on the right. The rail station is at the other end of that park.
The Bus station in Cartagena is close to the FEVE station. As you enter the FEVE station it is to the right and up the street (towards the port) Local and main line buses are available from this station.
