Old Charity Hospital
(Hospital de Caridad) - (1892)
Founded to care for people hurt during the mining
activity. Rectangular plan with central chapel and surrounding wards for

patients. Octagonal tower with hemispheric dome and small superior
lantern. Adopted as a cultural centre, it shelters the biggest Roman
mosaic in the region, "triclinium" flooring of the Roman
village of Portman, C II - III. Location is Calle Caridad, location
G on the
local Portman map. Located up the hill
from the elementary school. Admission is €1.80 for adults and €.90 for

The Mining Museum is situated in
the building Licero de Obreros (Workers High School) and represents a
required reference in the history of Spanish mining. It's collection is
made up of mining tools, scale models of some processes and a room
dedicated to the miners. With this varied collection of pieces, the
museum suggest an itinerary through La Union mining tradition.

As well as being the town's Interpretation Centre, the museum hosts a large collection daily utensils used by the inhabitants. This permanent ethnological exhibition is made up of a series of elements for lighting, weights and measures, pottery and glass items, cloths, farming implements and containers made of esparto grass.

The present day premises are built on a late Roman necropolis that was discovered on that ery site. Inside you can see the major settlement surrounded by two floors that house the museum's collections. The epigraphic collection is of special interest as it is the largest in Spain.

Of particular note is the ship model collection, cartography collection, and the hall devoted to Issac Peral, the Cartaginian engineer and designer of the famous submarine.

The museums resources bear witness to the investigation of ancient sea traffic routes. Of particular note are the amphorae, remains of different shipwrecks, and a model of a part of a Roman merchant ship.

The museum's galleries exhibit aspects of the military history of the city through maps, models, documents, weapons, uniforms and paintings.

Situated in the old Civil Guard headquarters, it contains three different halls: Ethnological Hall, lifesytle of local Spanish ancestors; Land, sea and air, showing local scenes and tools used for agricultural work, fishing techniques and a large collection of pictures of the beginnings of the General Air Academy. In the Nativity Scene Hall there is a permanent exhibition which is set up each year in front of the Town Hall. The Reporter's Hall showing the life experiences of a local journalist, Tico Medina.

Overview of Christian worship over the centuries and a monstrance containing a relic of the Patron saint of the town.

This museum is owned by the Fisherman's Brotherhood and exhibits a collection of sea shells, fish teeth, mollusc shells, miniature fishing artefacts typically used in the Mar Menor, nude collections, maps, etc.

This museum is located beside the former air base. It houses documents, photographs, and equipment preserved from the history of the Los Alcazeres base since it's birth as an aerodrome in 1915 to the present day.
